Plywood that cuts predictably

Plywood is the workhorse of laser cutting — strong, affordable, and clean-cutting. We stock Baltic birch in 1/8 and 1/4 inch: thin, void-free birch plies with consistent glue, so it cuts to a predictable edge. Big-box construction plywood has internal voids that cause inconsistent cuts and flare-ups — Baltic birch avoids that.

Working with plywood

Stock & thickness

Baltic birch stocked in 1/8 and 1/4 inch. Bring your own for any laser-safe plywood.

Edge & finish

Laser-cut plywood has a toasted-brown edge — mask for a lighter edge, or sand and stain for a finished look.

Why void-free matters

Voids in the inner plies are the main cause of a failed plywood cut — that is why we run void-free Baltic birch.

Baltic birch, thicknesses and joinery

Plywood quality decides cut quality. Baltic birch is the standard for laser work because it is void-free and consistent, so it cuts evenly with a clean edge — we cut it up to about 1/4″ thick. Big-box construction plywood has hidden voids and inconsistent glue and cuts unpredictably; we can run it, but results vary.

The cut edge is a light toasted caramel color — many people leave it, and it sands back easily if you want it lighter. Plywood is excellent for press-fit, slot-together designs and living hinges; send vector files at 1:1 scale and tell us the exact plywood and thickness so we can set joint tolerances around the kerf.

Common questions

How much does laser-cut plywood cost?

Every job has a $65 minimum and a clear itemized quote, priced by material, cut time, and quantity, with no setup fees.

How thick of plywood can you cut?

Up to about 1/4″ on Baltic birch. Tell us your exact stock and we will confirm.

What plywood should I use?

Baltic birch — void-free and consistent for a clean, even cut. For anything that matters, it is worth choosing over construction-grade plywood.

Can you cut MDF?

No — MDF produces heavy smoke and formaldehyde fumes and a badly charred edge, so we do not run it. Baltic birch is the better choice.

Can I bring my own plywood?

Yes — bring your own laser-safe plywood and we do not mark it up. Let us know the type and thickness when you send your file.
