Laser 101 · Engraving

Wood blanks for laser engraving.

What makes a good blank, which wood to pick, and how to get blanks cut and engraved.

What is a wood blank?

A blank is a plain piece of wood — a plaque, coaster, ornament, tag, or cutting board — ready to be engraved. We can cut the blanks and engrave them in one setup.

Choosing the wood

Walnut, cherry, and maple engrave with strong contrast and look premium. Baltic birch plywood is a good, consistent choice for tags, coasters, and labels. Flat, smooth surfaces engrave most evenly.

Custom shapes and quantities

Because we cut and engrave, blanks do not have to be standard shapes. Send a vector file of the shape and your artwork, and we will quote the full set together.

Bring your own

If you already have blanks, bring them and we will engrave them. Tell us the wood and size so we can test the settings.

Pricing and timing

Every project has a $65 minimum and an itemized quote. Standard turnaround is 3 to 5 business days, with next-business-day rush available on most jobs.
