Laser 101 · Engraving

Laser engraving wood.

A CO₂ laser darkens the wood surface to leave logos, names, and artwork that will not rub off.

How it works

Engraving uses a focused beam to remove or darken a thin top layer of the wood in your pattern. It does not cut through. We can engrave and cut in the same setup, so a sign or an award can be finished in one pass.

Which woods engrave best

Walnut, cherry, and maple give strong natural contrast and are the favorites for awards, cutting boards, and gifts. Baltic birch plywood engraves well for labels, logos, and artwork. Results differ by species, so tell us the wood you are using.

Detail you can expect

Logos, names, fine line work, and intricate detail all engrave well. We can also engrave photos on wood — see how photo engraving works. We adjust depth and dot density to suit each material.

Preparing your artwork

Send vector files (AI, DXF, or PDF) for cut paths and for crisp line work. PNG or JPG works for engraved photos. For details on file prep, see design file formats.

Your item or our material
